SUPERINTENDENT QUITS!
New
Hope for Our Public Schools
Our
Public School Superintendent, Joyce Baynes, quit suddenly on December 20, 2001.
Dr.
John Grieco, Superintendent of the prestigious Bergen County Academies, has
agreed to serve as the Interim Superintendent of our public schools.
Our
Board of Education President, Dave Matthews, in voicing support of Dr. Grieco’s
appointment and Baynes departure, said, “The board and the City of Englewood
are tired of having such low academic achievement. We want to work with the community to bring Englewood back to
being a great school system."

Bergen
County and State officials are also in support of Dr. Grieco's plans to create
magnet academies at Dwight Morrow High School.
Pat Schuber, Bergen County Executive, said, "It is our hope that
the money now spent on litigation will go toward educating kids… I am hopeful that we … can all be pulling in
the same direction to improve the academic opportunities for the students in
and near Englewood." (Source: The
Record, Bergen County, December 21, 2001)
Dr
Grieco and his successful team of administrators can now work to improve the
poor academic performance in our public schools. If this very capable group of people cannot bring accountability
and order to the chaotic state of our public education system, no one can!
We are hopeful and confident that they will succeed!
