The EHOA successfully lobbied to enable the Board of Adjustments attorney to file an appeal to Judge Guida’s decision. This appeal was filed at the end of August 2001. For your information, Judge Guida will be retiring in August 2002. Maybe, we will be lucky and a new judge who is more knowledgeable in municipal land use will hear the appeal. Meantime, there are at least two or three developers interested in building a residential complex on that site. The Presbyterian Church sent a notice to its members announcing that they were considering selling their land to Liberty Gate. Liberty Gate has built private homes in Tenafly, and one of the owners is Aram Menitiam. The EHOA and the East Hill Alliance would prefer a townhouse development verses an apartment building because it will provide for more open space. It appears that the Marriott Corporation no longer has desire to build an assisted living facility on this land. The EHOA and the East Hill Alliance did a fabulous job in delaying the building of this project for five years. We believe without a doubt that if it weren’t for the efforts of the EHOA, and the East Hill Alliance, this project would have been built three years ago. Although we are not shouting victory yet, we hope we can as soon as the site is sold to a developer for a townhouse project.
