City Council Election

Time To Vote!

The goals of our organization include the overall beautification of our neighborhoods and the preservation of our residential zones.  On Tuesday, November 5th we strongly encourage you to go to the polls and exercise your right to vote.

Residential zoning has become an important issue in this election.  Voters in the first ward should be aware that their councilman Doug Bern, who is running for re-election, stands for the preservation of our current residential zoning, including the preservation of the 1-acre and 2-acre zoning in areas where it currently exists.    His opponent is President of a small group called the Neighborhood Alliance,   which announced to the Press at an event that it supported building multi-unit housing all over the city.   Current zoning requirements do not allow the construction of multi-family dwellings in numerous residential neighborhoods.

The purpose of the EHOA News Bulletin is to bring awareness; it is up to you to decide.  To help you make an informed choice, inside you will find Englewood’s current minimum residential lot size requirements.  Please note:

Ø       The current minimum lot size for construction of single-family residences in Englewood varies from just over two acres in some residential districts to less than one-sixth of an acre in other residential districts.

Ø       Developers, searching for any land they can find, are anxious to overturn these minimum zoning restrictions and break our zoning to build multifamily buildings.

If you prefer multi-unit housing in areas currently zoned solely for single-family homes, you may want to vote for a change in the Council.  However if you feel these minimum zoning requirements help protect the quality and character of our neighborhoods, and our home values, you may want to support our current councilman  Doug Bern.
